采用无毒防腐玻璃纤维制造。其工作原理采用石英沙或其它填充物作为过滤介质，过滤水中的微小污物。石英沙被装填在砂缸腔体内。含有悬浮污物微粒的水由泵压入缸内，在压力作用下通过沙层，微小的污物被沙床过滤除掉。反冲洗时，水流由泵反向压入缸内，把沙层截留的污物冲走，由排污管道排出。
